130th Anniversary of St. Bartholomew’s Church

On Sunday 12th October we gathered together as a Benefice to celebrate 130 years of St. Bartholomew’s church in the village of Marsden, in the form of a Holy Communion service.

The service was led by the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, Bishop of Huddersfield and Rev Graeme our vicar. We were blessed to have the Marsden Silver Prize Brass Band playing for us, along with Jon Robinson, our Organist. The Deputy Lord Lieutenant , Tim Cole JP was in attendance.

Bishop Smitha spoke on Romans 15 v 5 – 7 and Luke 17 v 11 – 19. We were not just celebrating the building. We also celebrated the life within and out of the church, through all the congregation has been involved in over 130 years of serving God in this place.

The church walls were covered in displays – focusing on the periods of each vicar and some of what happened during those years. So much hard work had been put into organising this. Bishop Smitha was very impressed.

Afterwards we shared food together in the Parochial Hall joined by Bishop Smitha.
