Shred 180th Anniversary: Heritage Open Days and Cafe 10 & 11 April 2026

A wonderful weekend of celebration at Shred – also known as Upper Slaithwaite Church – on Bradshaw Road up in the hills above Slaithwaite. Shred was built on a shred of land given by the Lord Dartmouth of the time, and was a mission church established by St. James Parish church, Slaithwaite 180 years ago.

The weekend Heritage Open days and cafe were to celebrate the long life of this church building but more importantly the continuing faith and growth of all who have attended over the years. Shred has a thriving Sunday School and family time which meets most Sundays and a monthly church service.

There were some great displays in the church sanctuary to read and look at. Fascinating!

Shred is well known for it’s hospitality and especially the cakes! 230 lovely sandwich baps were sold over the 2 days and huge amounts of very delicious handmade cakes. The cafe was a great place to meet friends old and new, and clearly well attended. Thanks to all who came to support the weekend and to help raise funds for the continuation of the special place of worship.

And of course there were some wonderful flower displays both indoors and outside to help with the celebrations.

Well done to everyone at Shred who played a part in organising and helping at this special anniversary weekend.
