On Sunday 2nd November the churchyard at St. Bartholomew’s was lit up by almost 1,000 candles to create a beautiful illuminated scene.
We were delighted to see so many people who came to remember loved ones and reflect on their loss. Remembering those people who are still so special by lighting a candle as a Light of Love. These were placed on individual gravestones and the permanent stone plinth in the memorial garden.
Rev. Graeme Holdsworth led a time of thoughtful prayer and reflection offering words of hope and comfort. Also taking the opportunity to remember those who had given their lives in service to their country.
The church was open for those who wished to have some quiet time and those who wished to, joined us afterwards for refreshments.

This is the first time we have done this service and the feedback has been very positive with some lovely photos and comments on social media. We even had people driving past the church and stopping to look.
Most importantly this was a chance for people to remember their loved ones in a quiet and reflective way. We hope that those who attended were comforted by this.
We plan to make this an annual event at St. Bartholomew’s as we continue our project of improving and enhancing our graveyard.
Thank you to everyone who helped with this event and especially to other local churches who provided lots of advice, equipment and most importantly jars to hold the candles.
