On Sunday 10th August we worshipped as a Benefice at Shred. The church was full, including one little dog who had a very loud snore! Rev. Graeme led our service with Annis and some of the Shred children.

The theme was Creation and taking care of our world. In previous weeks at ‘Sunday at Shred’ the children had learnt about Creation from the Genesis 1 bible reading and made some wonderful artwork which they showed, as they re-told the story to the congregation.

Our prayers focused on what we can do with our eyes, ears, lips, minds, hands and feet on behalf of the God who made us and loves us unconditionally.
We sang some wonderful hymns and songs, one of which helped us to think what our world would be like with out animals, fish, and people. We also sang an adapted version of ‘He’s got the whole world in His hand’ – “He’s got Slaithwaite and Marsden in His hand” and He’s got disciples at St. James, in His hand. He’s got disciples at St. Bart’s, in His hand. He’s got disciples at Shred, in His hand.” We firmly believe this to be true.
We shared Holy Communion together, remembering the last Supper meal Jesus had with His disciples. Following the service we continued in this manner, by having a picnic lunch together outside looking over the beautiful valley we live in. The church yard has been brightened up with new planters and planting by the Shred gardening group.

(Shred is officially known as Upper Slaithwaite Church or Shred Mission Church).
